Sometimes an up-close perspective requires us to step back and take in the long view first. That’s what happened in New Hampshire, the Granite State, where Mary Lane, Education Consultant with the New Hampshire Department of Education’s Bureau of Special Education Support, and Michelle Lewis, Executive Director of the New Hampshire Parent Information Center, were on a mission to improve the quality of their state’s Indicator 8 data. In this episode of A Date with Data, host Amy Bitterman learns more about how their process of capturing the close-up family perspective first required them to step back to consider the “why” behind this indicator.

The SPP/APR Target Setting Toolkit is a series of eight Excel workbooks designed to assist states as they set targets for their State Performance Plan/Annual Performance Report (SPP/APR). Each tool presents five different target setting methodologies that states can use to develop, discuss, and, ultimately, set measurable and rigorous targets, as required by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA).

The NRBA App is an interactive nonresponse bias application powered by state-of-the-art statistical software. We developed this application to help states examine their SPP/APR Indicator 8 and Indicator 14 data through nonresponse bias analysis. The NRBA App allows users to conduct reproducible analyses of response rates, representativeness, and nonresponse bias, tailored to their survey’s data collection method.

This new resource can support SEA staff who prepare for the data systems and SPP/APR components of DMS 2.0. It includes a review of the Parts B and C—Data and SPP/APR Protocol along with IDC’s suggested evidence that an SEA may provide to OSEP in support of each monitoring question in the protocol. This resource also includes a list of IDC TA resources that states can use to create or strengthen their evidence.

States will find our IDEA Assessment Data Display Tool for SPP/APR Indicator 3 a great help as they prepare SEA-level data for submission via EDPass. This resource will help them to see how data may appear in the SPP/APR. States can review their current year's data for Indicators 3A, 3B, 3C, and 3D using EDFacts files FS175, FS178, FS185, and FS188.
