Improving Indicator 6 Data Quality to Reflect Inclusive PracticesIDC and staff from the state of Washington held a discussion on improving Indicator 6 data quality. IDC provided an overview of 618 Child Count and Educational Environments data and Indicator 6. Washington state staff described the coaching they provided to regional and district staff to help them better understand, improve, and use Indicator 6 data to promote more inclusive educational environments for preschoolers with disabilities. These efforts have created changes at both the system and district levels.

The tool also provides states with user-friendly data summaries.

LEA Data Processes ToolkitThere is a continuous need for state education agencies (SEAs) and local education agencies (LEAs) to collect and report comprehensive, high-quality data and ensure they report data accurately and in a timely fashion. The customizable IDC LEA Data Processes Toolkit is a new instrument that can improve decisionmaking about children and youth with disabilities by ensuring data are of high quality and processes are clearly defined and documented, while also providing data staff a map for documenting data processes within local districts.

Interactive Public Reporting EngineThe Interactive Public Reporting Engine displays the complete set of IDEA data that states collect and submit to OSEP to meet the requirements of Section 618 of IDEA. This tool displays each dataset and the required disaggregations such as race/ethnicity, gender, and age. It provides a more dynamic way for states to meet the 618 public reporting requirements, and linking to the tool fulfills the public reporting requirements. In addition, use of the tool promotes conversations about how to improve results among families, teachers, schools, related service providers, administrators, policymakers, and other interested stakeholders.

IDEA Data Quality: Outlier Analyses ToolsIDC designed these two technical assistance products to be used by state personnel responsible for IDEA 618 and/or 616 data. The products include a step-by-step guide on completing an outlier analysis, with a brief introduction on the principles of outlier analyses, and a tool state staff can use to conduct outlier analyses with their local data. IDEA Part B state staff working with LEAs also can use both products to analyze their local data.
