For many of us, the turn of a new year represents not just a change in the calendar but an opportunity to reflect on where we’ve been and where we might like to go next. And while new year’s resolutions aren’t exactly our thing, we asked IDC TA providers and staff to share with us either a word or brief phrase that they’re keeping close to their minds and hearts as they look forward to a season of renewal and possibility.

It's time to hold the date for IDC's Interactive Institute 2024! Our annual Interactive Institutes create opportunities for states to come together with each other and our TA providers to learn more about building a culture of high-quality data, developing and maintaining innovative data quality practices, and making effective use of tools to facilitate improved outcomes for children and youth with disabilities. So mark your calendars and hold that date!

One thing years of experience have taught us: States love stories. Specifically, states love stories about other states, challenges they’ve faced, processes and strategies they’ve employed, successes they’ve enjoyed. That was the spark behind IDC’s twice-monthly podcast, A Date with Data, now in its second year of production and an effort that is particularly relevant in light of the Department of Education’s recent focus on sharing out state success stories.

A key aspect of any state’s SPP/APR is stakeholder engagement, but in a state with as many seats around the table as Texas, bringing people together and keeping them there can require no small measure of special planning. On this episode of A Date with Data, host Amy Bitterman is all in with Susan Bineham, Texas Education Agency’s SPP/APR coordinator and manager of the Office of Special Populations and Student Supports (OSPSS). They’re putting their cards on the table to talk about the importance – and logistics – of how the state brings together parents, community members, and others to get the most of their IDEA data.
