Assessment Interactive Map (AIM)

States and territories can use this interactive map, which features data from every state and territory, to identify other states and territories with similar concerns or similar contexts, with a view to beginning a dialogue around improving outcomes for children and students with disabilities. Data relate to the 2013–14 and 2014–15 school years. The interactive map will be updated in successive years. Data were collected from a range of sources, including state websites, APRs for FYYs 2011 and 2012, OSEP State Determination Letters, and Department of Education ESEA waivers. Variables collected include information about each state's and territory’s college- and career-ready standards; state and territory reading/language arts and mathematics assessments administered in 2013–14 and 2014–15 school years; target and actual data on Part B Indicator 3a, b, and c, reported in states’ APRs for grant years 2011–12 and 2012–13; and OSEP State Determinations for 2013 (issued July 1, 2013) and 2014 (issued July 1, 2014).

For the first year of data collection, to establish a standardized method of data collection, data were first entered into an Excel matrix, and then, a one-pager was developed for each state and territory. This one-pager was sent to every Part B data manager who was asked to verify that the data were correct. If the state or territory did not respond, an independent researcher double checked that the information collected was correct. For subsequent years, one-pagers will not be developed or sent to Part B data managers. If errors in the information are identified, please contact IDC with corrections.

The reader is reminded that the FFY of the data that are being reported in the APRs and upon which State Determinations are based are two years behind the year in which the report is created to accommodate the time it takes to gather the data. This means that the 2013 APR is a report on FFY 2011 data (Grant Year 2011–12), and the 2014 APR is a report on FFY 2012 (Grant Year 2012–13).
